New findings on impact of working past retirement

by on September 24, 2013

Reported in the Telegraph’s interestingly titled “Elder Health” section is this new report which suggest that there is no link between the date at which someone retires and the date they die.  Published in the Journal of Health Economics, the research suggests that heath status is the key factor in date of death, with no link to work found.  This contradicts previous studies (some of which we have reported on our blog) that both retiring early and retiring later are related to the longevity.  The authors suggest that health status impacts the extent to which individuals work on past retirement and this has led to conflation between the two factors in previous studies.
