Work advice from father to son

by on June 16, 2014

It was Father’s day in the UK on Sunday.  This reflective piece by Nigel Miller considered “What My Father’s Generation Taught Me About Great Work” and as he suggests: “what made him tick is arguably what makes us all tick, regardless of our age or occupation”.

Nigel reviews five key points that he feels apply just as much today as ever:

1. Know and embrace your role in achieving the company’s “North Star.”

2. Take time to renew and recharge.

3. Sometimes a company’s best choice is what it will stop doing.

4. Feeling valued has always mattered.

5. Little things can make the biggest difference.

Not all of us have Father’s who offer this sort of role model of course, but nevertheless looking at what stays the same as well as what changes seems like sound advice.
