Mary’s Silver Service: Finding work for ‘overlooked and under-valued pensioners’

by on May 30, 2014

In a week in which the Daily Express reported a survey finding that bosses consider workers to be ‘past their best’ from the day they turn 50, we learn that Channel 4 are to start a new series next week featuring Mary Portas who is launching a pop-up employment agency for the over 65s.

The series was trailed as long ago as May last year when it was being called Mary’s Jobs for Life. Now re-labelled Mary’s Silver Service, the Channel 4 website describes the series in the following terms: ‘Mary Portas wants to find jobs for Britain’s overlooked and under-valued pensioners, encouraging them to dust off the skills they’ve spent a lifetime perfecting and go back to work and give Britain the benefit of their experience and expertise’.

It starts next Wednesday 4th June at 8pm and looks as if it will cover different jobs each week, starting with caterers, a hairdresser and a make-up artist. Gardeners and builders are covered in week 2.

More details about the series are on the Channel 4 website from this link: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/marys-silver-service/episode-guide
