NSW Australia holds annual ‘seniors week’

by on March 19, 2014

This week is Seniors Week in New South Wales Australia with the theme this year of “celebration of life, achievements and community engagement“.  The main focus is a series of (often free) events such as concerts with the aim also to give ‘seniors’ “something new for you to try and enjoy whether it be arts and crafts, technology, health and wellbeing or sport“.  There doesn’t seem to be a particular focus on work however

It is interesting that their website sets out specific age categories for those classified as seniors – which include “people over 60; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50; people over 50 that have a lifelong disability“.

We have highlighted specific events and awards for older age groups before and wonder about the effect on perceptions and stereotypes.  Let us know what you think!
