Researching Work and Organisation On-line

by on December 19, 2013

On Monday this week, we were delighted to present a methodological paper about our research at a workshop hosted by the excellent Research Methodology Special Interest Group of the British Academy of Management. The event focused on ‘Researching Work and Organisation On-Line’ and was part of the ‘Sharing our Struggles’ series.

Once again, this was a stimulating and thought-provoking day with excellent contributions from speakers across a range of academic disciplines who have all grappled with the Web as a location for data for their research. It was particularly heartening to hear of approaches that went beyond the notion of the Web as simply a source of ‘Big Data’ such as the ethnographic methodology of Christine Hine and the pioneering research on work blogs from James Richards. I’m sure there will be a follow-up event of some sort as everyone agreed that this is a developing area where new insights are emerging and new struggles can be usefully shared between researchers.

The slides from the presentations will be posted on the BAM website in due course and we’ll post a link.
