Silver worker role models

Following on from our post last Thursday, reporting the increase in older workers, the Telegraph, offers  further discussion and two cases studies of men working part time, ‘silver workers’, aged 65 and over.  Focusing on the role of part-time and self-employment this piece goes further in suggesting that these should be seen as role models and should be viewed by younger workers as effective ways of managing the transition from work to non-work in later life in an era of pension gaps.  This places significant emphasis on personal responsibility and makes a number assumptions about the availability and/or suitability of these opportunities for what will be a group with a wide range of skills and experience.
