Age discrimination claim against Radio Clyde

by on March 27, 2013

According to this article in The Herald, former DJ Adrian Coll is suing Radio Clyde’s owner, Bauer Radio Limited, for unfair dismissal and age discrimination. He was told last November that he was no longer needed by the radio station.

Bauer Radio contest the claim and say that he was not an employee but a freelance DJ.

The article is a bit short of detail on the age-related aspects of the claim but it seems that there was a review hearing last week at which the judge ruled that Mr Coll’s grievances should be heard and ordered that a tribunal hearing take place.

The question of (self?)employment status echoes an aspect of the claim brought by John McCririck against Channel 4. Their spokeswoman, as reported here in the Express, rejected “the suggestion that discrimination on the basis of age played any part in the decision not to renew his freelance contract”.
