Effect of caring on working lives: Biggest impact on 45-54 year olds
A new poll for Carers UK/YouGov shows that just over 1 in 5 UK adults (22%) have seen their work negatively impacted as a result of caring. This includes 2.3 million who have given up work and almost 3 million who have reduced their working hours. This of course can damage career prospects and future pension entitlements.
The impact was highest amongst 45-54 year olds, where more than 1 in 4 reported that caring had taken a toll on their work (27%).
The poll is reported here on the Carers UK website. Its publication marks the 10th anniversary of Employers for Carers which helps employers to support and retain carers who continue to work. Corporate members include Sainsbury’s, BT Group, British Gas, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the London Fire Brigade.
