The ‘new unemployables’: older workers in the US

by on February 27, 2013

This item from a US website gives an interesting overview of the jobs market for older workers in America.

They have been called ‘the new unemployables’; too young to retire and too old to be re-hired once made redundant. Workers in their 50s are about 20% less likely than those aged 25 to 34 to find new jobs.

The UK saw a year on year fall in the number of age discrimination claims in the year ending March 2012. In the US there has been a 20% increase in such claims since 2007.
