Making the UK more ‘youth employment friendly’

by on February 26, 2013

Increasing the number of young people in employment and making the UK more ‘youth employment friendly’  are the objectives of a not-for-profit organization that I’ve just come across, Youth Employment UK.

Their website aims to bring together advice on careers, employability, enterprise and training for young people to help ‘ensure their own success’.

Interestingly, they say that one of the reasons for high youth unemployment in the UK is that hiring young people is seen as ‘risky’ or a long-term investment. I’ve certainly seen older workers described elsewhere as a ‘risky’ employment choice too (and too short term to be worth investing in).

As I’m sure we’ve commented before, there are some striking similarities in how people at both ends of the age spectrum are talked about.
