Age and industries

One observation from research on age and work has been the extent to which workers in particular age groups are over- or under-represented in certain industries. For example, IT is typically seen as a ‘young’ industry whilst older workers (particularly men) are seen as having been adversely affected by the decline in (heavy) manufacturing in the UK and other Western countries.

So I was intrigued by the juxtaposition of this article on the Forbes website about what can be done to restore manufacturing jobs in the US with a smaller item (and accompanying photo) on the same webpage about an AARP sponsored career counseling session at a ‘Work Search’ event aimed at older unemployed people.
