B&Q sued for age discrimination
Another age discrimination claim, this time being brought against B&Q, a retailer with a well publicised policy of employing older workers.
According to this article in the Mail Online, 81 year old Irene Mullenger, who had worked for B&Q for 25 years, is claiming age related indirect discrimination and unfair dismissal after changes in her shift pattern to hours and days she couldn’t work.
As is so often the case, the comments from readers of the Mail Online are even more interesting than the original article. These include suggestions that, at her age, she should ‘move aside’ anyway to let a younger person do her job. There are also references to her being ‘past retirement age’ – though of course, mandatory retirement has largely been abolished in the UK.
