Internships and young graduates

An interesting recent article here in The Independent on the ‘internship industry’ that has sprung up, matching up organizations and (young) graduate interns.  The article asks if such intermediaries are ‘saviours or exploiters’?

Or indeed are they both? It seems highly possible that such firms can provide a useful service that benefits both parties but at the same time they can be part of a bigger and worrying trend that can exclude many from careers for which an internship is, as referred to in the article, ‘an essential first rung on the ladder’.
