Generations at Work: Differences?

by on November 15, 2012

Another article discussing different generations in the workplace. The Business 2 Community website reports here on a ‘Multi-Generational Panel Discussion’ at which questions about work were asked to workers said to represent different generations (Gen Y, Gen X and Baby Boomers).

Once again, it is striking how the article makes a number of assumptions, not least the following statements:

‘In a diverse organization, employees vary in age, work experience and generation. As we know, every generation brings its own culture and transformations to the workplace and has different aspirations, values and ways of getting things done.’

The article then goes on to report on these so-called differences between generations. As we have observed before, however, these turn out to be rather less than the headline and introduction would have you believe – as well as featuring some within-generation variation.
