Interview advice for the over 60s

by on August 15, 2012

Here’s some interesting job interview advice for the over 60s from an article on a US website.

The author consulted websites with celebrity birthdates and found that he was about the same age as Jay Leno, Richard Branson, and Meryl Streep, and 20 or more years younger than Clint Eastwood and the architect Frank Gehry.

His suggestion is to use such a list in job interviews to pre-empt issues of age that might be considered but not expressly raised. He proposes saying something like: “You may be wondering about my age. Let me say that I’m a lot younger than Warren Buffett, William Shatner, or Toni Morrison.”

In the UK, we could perhaps cite being younger than Eric Idle, Paul McCartney or Roger Daltrey perhaps.
