Developing career opportunities for young people

by on July 9, 2012

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) is a social partnership, led by commissioners from employer organizations, trade unions and the voluntary sector. On its website it describes its mission as being ‘to raise skill levels to help drive enterprise, create more and better jobs and economic growth’.

One of its focus areas for 2012/13 is the development of more career opportunities for young people. From this link on its website, there are a number of reports to download including the Youth Employment Challenge, a follow-up to their Youth Inquiry published last year.

It uses data from a UK employers’ survey to show changes in labour market and recruitment practices over the last decade. The focus is on the effects these changes have on youth employment.

  1. More and more young people are choosing to go into business for themselves compared to years ago. So with this said, there needs to be more programs in place to help them do just that. At age 54 this year, I am finally doing the same after being laid off in 2008 for the 3rd time and not being able to find another 9 to 5 job. Great article and I hope to see more! Career Counseling
