Age – and the Eurovision song contest: Part 2
Well, have the Russians thwarted the British plan to capture the older age Eurovision vote (see our earlier blog) by selecting a group of singers from Buranovo who are all grandmothers? This aspect of the contest is now shaping up into the ‘Geezer vote’ (for 75 year old Engelbert Humperdinck) versus the ‘Granny vote’ for the Buranovo Grannies.
The Buranovo Grannies perform their song which features a mix of Udmurt and English.
And here Guardian readers discuss whether the British entrant has what it takes to win.
All of which does raise some interesting considerations of age and potentiality, how voices age and of stereotyping.
