ESRC: UK Employment rates for different age groups
The ESRC’s Report ‘Understanding Society Findings 2012’ is the second wave of analysis including longitudinal data on a range of topics including who we draw on for social support, who does the housework, why we move house and who participates in sports.

Of particular interest in the context of age and work, is the section on employment transitions and the recession (pages 27-8). It includes analysis of employment rates for different age groups.
The report’s conclusion that the recesssion has affected the employment prospects of young people more than older workers is discussed in this blog from the Guardian’s economics team. The reader comments debate this further with a range of reasons suggested.
