A new generation: the ‘Wearies’

It was bound to happen. After Dinkies and Ski-ers, the latest acronym for a social group is the ‘Wearies’, which stands for ‘Working, Entrepreneurial and Active Retirees’.

According to the think-tank, Future Foundation, this is a group of pensioners who find it hard to get paid employment because of their age but who cannot afford to retire. As reported in the Mirror, this will make them ‘innovative and entrepreneurial contributors to the UK economy’ whether through part-time work, runing small businesses from home, trading online or renting out spare rooms as a way of supplementing their pensions.
