Should actors’ ages be given on movie database?

by on October 30, 2011

Unions representing US actors claim their members are losing work because their ages or dates of birth appear on the Internet Movie Database IMDb (which is owed by Amazon).

The unions argue that chronological age is irrelevant to casting and that it’s the age range that an actor can portray that is important.

Their involvement follows a US actress suing Amazon claiming the IMDb website is mis-using her date of birth (which she claims she provided as part of her credit card information when she paid for the database listing service) and losing her acting opportunities.
