Pilots over 60 can fly

by on September 15, 2011

The European Court of Justice has ruled on Lufthansa’s requirement that its pilots retire at the age of 60. The Court decided that this age limit went beyond the requirements of international and German law.

The rule had been challenged by three pilots forced to retire as a result of Lufthansa’s policy. A Court statement said “While the right to act as a pilot may be limited from that age, total prohibition goes beyond that which is necessary to ensure air traffic safety.”

And on the subject of pilots, our own pilot study (!) ends soon. Lots of material to review.
